Gender-based organisations
Imbuto Foundation: The organisation was created in 2007 by the First Lady of Rwanda, Mrs. Jeannette Kagame, to carry forward and build on the work of PACFA, which over the last six years advocated consistently for and implemented pioneering initiatives on health, education and economic empowerment.
Organization of African First Ladies against HIV/AIDS (OAFLA): This is a coalition of 40 African First Ladies who have joined forces to act as a voice for the voiceless in the fight against HIV/AIDS. The OPDAS executive secretariat is located in Kigali, Rwanda and led by the Rwandan First Lady.
PRO-FEMMES/TWESE HAMWE is a platform and a consultation structure for the associations and members. It facilitates exchange between different member associations and promotes partnership with organisations working for women promotion.
Forum for African Women Educationalists (FAWE): This is a pan-African Non Government Organization founded in 1992 by five women ministers of education to promote girls’ and women’s education in sub-Saharan Africa in line with Education For All. The organisation’s members include ministers of education, university vice-chancellors, education policy-makers, researchers, gender specialists and human rights activists.
Women for Women International: The organisation mobilizes women to change their lives through a holistic approach that addresses the unique needs of women in conflict situation and war victims.
